Fernando Duarte (b. 1978) is an award-winning composer whose works have been performed in Brazil, the United States, and Europe. His film music has been featured on platforms such as Amazon Prime, in internationally award-winning documentaries, and in feature films starring prominent Brazilian actors and actresses, directed by filmmakers with projects on Netflix’s Top 10.

He began his piano studies at the age of seven and composed his first work at fourteen. He studied composition at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) with Dr. Liduino Pitombeira and Dr. Alexandre Schubert, and at the University of Wyoming, USA, with Dr. Gary Smart, where several of his works were commissioned and premiered by faculty members. With more than twenty-five years as a music educator and producer, he has taught numerous students and produced albums across a wide range of styles.

He was selected as a finalist by the jury of the Festival Nacional Rádio MEC, presented by the Brazilian Ministry of Education. He also had an orchestral work premiered by the acclaimed conductor Priscila Bomfim, the first woman to conduct an opera in the official season of Rio de Janeiro’s Theatro Municipal, and assistant conductor at the Municipal Theaters of Rio and São Paulo.
